1. Spec it
Start from a GMA, block, drum or EUR-style pallet and set every board, species, fastener and the load. A 3-D mockup and drawings update as you go.
2. Send the RFQ
Add quantity, frequency, delivery and due dates, choose suppliers from the directory or add your own, and send. Suppliers quote from a private link.
3. Compare and award
Prices, freight, lead times and terms line up side by side, sorted by total cost. Award the order and keep the spec on file for next time.
Questions
- How does sending an RFQ work?
- Pick a saved spec, add quantity, frequency, delivery location and dates, then choose suppliers from the Pallet Union directory or add your own by email. Each supplier gets a private link to the full spec sheet and a short quote form — they don't need an account. Quotes arrive by email and line up side by side in your dashboard.
- I sell pallets — can I use this for my customers?
- Yes. Pallet companies use the builder to turn a customer's rough requirements into a professional spec sheet with drawings and load ratings, share it with a link, and keep every revision. Listing your company in the directory also lets buyers send you RFQs.
- How are the load capacities calculated?
- Each deckboard, stringer and block is modelled as a beam and solved with finite-element analysis for the support condition — on the floor, racked across either direction, and lifted by forks from the end or side. Stresses are compared with mean strength values for pallet-grade lumber (USDA Wood Handbook), reduced for grade, moisture content, load duration and your chosen safety factor. Notches, partial loads and fastener withdrawal are included.
- Can I trust the numbers for a customer?
- The results are engineering estimates intended for design and quoting, and every result shows the check that governs it. For critical or high-liability applications, confirm the design with physical testing — the spec sheet is a good starting point for a test plan.
- Which pallets can I design?
- Two-way and notched four-way stringer pallets (single or double face, flush or wing) and block pallets with three-runner or perimeter bases, in any size from 12 to 120 inches, in inches or millimetres.
- What does the free plan include?
- The full spec builder with load ratings, up to three saved specs, watermarked spec sheets and two RFQs a month to up to three suppliers each. Pro adds unlimited specs and RFQs, branded spec sheets, share links, revision history and the cost optimizer.
